Service Description

Session 1 – Introduction: What the tech?! After an introduction to the seminars and each other, we'll dive into the basics of NFTs, crypto, and the blockchain. We'll discuss the films Banking on Bitcoin and Cryptopia to help clarify the underlying technology, its uses today in art, visual culture, and commerce, and its disruptive promises. Session 2 – An Emergent Ecosystem: "Everyone is an Artist" The NFT landscape is exciting but confusing. We cover the lay of the land, with its pioneering platforms, influencers, and early service providers. We identify new opportunities for creative freedom, artistic empowerment, and market-making, alongside central concepts of utility, community, DAOs, and governance. Session 3 - Lucky number 10,000: Mass Scarcity and Artistic Innovation NFTs quickly appeared as a major (potential) disruptor to the established fine art industry. We'll look at noteworthy drops, CryptoArt, Generative Art, and how these compare to earlier moving-image and new media art since the 1960s. Influencing both new art forms and collecting behaviors, we'll discuss NFTs from both a crypto and art market perspective towards key concepts of scarcity, rarity, pricing, and value. The seminar includes: • Readings and Watch lists Required: Banking on Bitcoin (2016 film - Netflix); Cryptotopia: Bitcoin, Blockchains, and the Future of the Internet (2020 film - Amazon Prime); Jason Bailey “Why Love Generative Art?”; Jason Bailey What is CryptoArt?
