Service Description

Part 1 - The course will provide an introduction to working in photography through assignments to explore techniques, lectures, group critiques, viewings of historical photography, training in Adobe Photoshop and creating finals prints for a portfolio. Learning outcomes include new techniques to approach composing a photograph, proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, attaining skills to print a final portfolio, knowledge of significant contemporary photographers, the ability to analyze and critique photography. Students will learn about composition, exposure, aperture, and shutter speed. Access to a digital SLR, smartphone with high end camera, or a traditional 35mm camera is required. Session 1: Introduction to the class, training/review of camera settings, lecture on portraits and color, assignment exploring technique Session 2: Review of assignment, training in critical photography techniques for Adobe Photoshop, discussion of proper media organization, lecture on contemporary photographers Session 3: Discussion on reading, review of Photoshop techniques, lecture on contemporary photographers Session 4: Review of Adobe Photoshop techniques for photographers, lecture on contemporary photographers, composition assignment Session 5: Discussion of how to create a final selection of images, review of assignment, discussion of artist statement for final portfolio Session 6: Final critique 15 - 20 images. The seminar includes: • Readings and Watch lists: Each seminar course comes with access to a carefully curated bibliography of contextual readings, case studies and watch lists (where appropriate) will be sent to prepare you for each seminar / discussion • Assignments Short preparatory texts or audio/visual materials are provided in advance of each weekly session • 12 hours of live instruction • Expert interviews – You will access webinar interviews with experts and artists • Video – Recording of Seminar • Presentation slides – The students can download pdf copies of the slides used • 2 platform credits at completion
