Service Description

Through this ten-part seminar will give you a thorough understanding of the key contemporary questions in moving image and new media artwork. We will look at a wide range of historical precedents and key theoretical texts. We will watch works together and learn about them through detailed discussion informed by weekly readings and watch lists. We will look at artist film, industrial cinema, structural film, animation and new immersive technologies – using the history of film, new media and time-based work to evaluate new theories and trends. We will consider such key ideas as form, medium, narrative, documentary / the essay film, constructed and augmented realities, animation, duration and presentation. The seminar will deliver a thorough grounding in moving image / new media work and its critical reception through presentations, informed discussion, consideration of key theoretical / contextual resources and informed discussion of moving image work from across the history of moving image production.
